Protective face masks must be worn in public or private places, except in private residences, and must cover the mouth and nose. Children under the age of six, and people who are exercising, driving or eating at restaurants as well as travellers on motorcycles are not required to wear a mask. Businesses are restricted from allowing entry without a face mask. Violators will be fined USD500.

Before travel

All air travellers over the age of five are required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result no older than 96 hours or an antigen test result no older than 48 hours, to be subject to a fast-track arrival process. Travellers with a proof of full vaccination are also required to provide a pre-travel test. Authorities may test travellers at random regardless of if they have a valid negative test result.

Travellers entering through land borders must present a negative PCR test conducted within 72 hours or a rapid antigen test conducted within 24 hours prior to arrival.

Upon arrival

Travellers entering through land borders will undergo a rapid antigen test upon arrival.

Those who arrive without a pre-travel test result will undergo a test upon arrival at their own expense.

All travellers may be subject to a random secondary test following health screening upon arrival.

After arrival

All inbound travellers from Botswana, the Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe must test negative for COVID-19 for release from a mandatory 10-day quarantine at a government designated facility.

All inbound travellers from Botswana, the Kingdom of eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe are required to quarantine for 10 days at a government designated facility and must test negative for release.

All inbound travellers with a valid negative PCR test result, a valid rapid antigen test or have received full vaccination against COVID-19 at least two weeks prior as well as those who test negative upon arrival at their own expense will no longer be required to self-quarantine for 10 days. Those who test positive must quarantine for 14 days as government facilities; travellers staying at Gold Standard Hotels may self-isolate at their accommodation while all other travellers will quarantine at a government-designated facility at their own expense.

๐Ÿคš Area restrictions

Curfew

The curfew runs from 23:00-04:00 local time daily from Sunday to Thursday and from 24:00-04:00 local time on Fridays and Saturdays nationwide. A curfew for unaccompanied minors is in place from 18:00-04:00 daily. Tightened curfew hours for minors were earlier imposed from 18:00-06:00 local time in Southside, Belize City; it was not immediately clear if the those curfew hours remain in effect.

Domestic Travel

Public transport is operating at 75 percent capacity with masks required. "Gold Standard" expanded from hotels and resorts to include "Gold Standard" entities including restaurants, tourism sites, gift shops and car rental and taxi operators.

Others

Effective until further notice, restaurants, casinos, gyms and religious events and restaurants may operate at 50 percent capacity.

Public gatherings of all kinds are only allowed up to 10 people from different households; private parties are limited to immediate household members, with nightclubs closed. Spas, beauty salons and barber shops may only operate on an appointment basis, with no more than two customers at a time. Violators of these restrictions face fines of BZD5,000 (USD2,480) or two years imprisonment.

Covid Pass is required for some domestic activities: A negative COVID-19 vaccination certificate is required to enter schools, public medical institutions and government offices as well as casinos; unvaccinated or partly vaccinated patrons with an appointment must present a negative PCR or rapid antigen test no older than two weeks or a certificate of first vaccination and a date for the second jab. Children under 12 and medical emergencies are exempted.

A COVID-19 MOHW Health Pass app to proof vaccination status was launched on 15 October.

A proof of vaccination or a negative test is no longer required for entry to restaurants or for competitive sports, as of 22 November. Recreational and competitive contact sports do still require all participants to be fully vaccinated.

Covid Pass availability: A paper or digital vaccination certificate stamped by the health authorities of respective countries is accepted. It was not immediately clear if non-residents without a Belizean social security number or health ID will be able to register their vaccination records in the MOHW Health Pass app. The app will only be available for iOS devices. Good to know

A nationwide nightly curfew remains in place, while international travel has mostly resumed. A latest "wave" of COVID-19 infections is underway since August. Nearly 50 percent of the population was fully vaccinated as of mid-December.
