Travel to South Africa

If you’re travelling to South Africa, you are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test, download the COVID Alert South Africa app and complete the traveller health questionnaire before departure.

COVID-19 testing requirements

Passengers must present a valid recognised negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate for a test taken not more than 72 hours before the date of travel.

All passengers will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and will be required to answer any questions required by the Health Authorities on arrival.

Exemptions

Children below the age of 5 years are exempted from COVID 19 PCR test.

Airline crew will be allowed entry subject to them adhering to the industry health guidelines and international protocols.

Travel from South Africa

If you’re travelling from South Africa, you must complete all the requirements of your specific destination and present a valid negative COVID-19 PCR and COVID-19 Rapid PCR certificate as specified below.

You will be required to wear protective equipment (i.e. mask) upon entering the airport terminal and comply with sanitisation and social distancing measures as per the relevant health protocols on safety and prevention of the spread of COVID-19. A temperature test will be performed at the terminal entrance, and you will be required to present your negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate.

COVID-19 testing requirements

First mandatory test: Passengers must present a printed copy of a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate with a QR code issued within 48 hours from the time of collecting the sample, and within 48 hours of departure from the following laboratories.

Second mandatory test: Passengers must present a printed copy of a valid negative COVID-19 Rapid PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted within 6 hours of departure from the following facilities (Advance Booking Recommended):

Travel from South Africa - Transit passengers

  • Must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate for a test taken no more than 72 hours before departure and comply with the requirements of their final destination.

Required forms

All passengers are required to complete the Traveller Health Questionnaire (Exit Screening) and present it at check-in

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before departure to complete all COVID-19 protocols and airport formalities. Check-in will close promptly 60 minutes before departure to ensure on-time departures and passenger handling convenience.
